Engaging both the wider German and Indonesian school community, this festival captivated attendees from 2 PM until late evening, ensuring an unforgettable experience for everyone involved.
The festival boasted an array of exhilarating activities catered to all age groups. For the younger ones, there were inflatable climbing castles, horse riding in our botanic garden, and even archery. The sports hall buzzed with excitement as participants enjoyed trampolining, parcours, and the menacing crowd-favorite bull-riding machine. In the kindergarten area a delightful mini-zoo featuring turtles kept our smallest visitors busy.
No festival is complete without delectable food and drink offerings, and the DSJ School Festival certainly delivered culinary delights for anyones' tastes.
Adding to the festive atmosphere, various classes organized their own unique events within their classrooms. From lively karaoke sessions to intense rock-paper-scissors competitions and gripping chess tournaments, many classes showcased their creativity and enthusiasm.
One extraordinary highlight of the festival was the presence of The Spirit of Football, an initiative that brought THE BALL to our school. Starting in London at the birthplace of football in 2022, it traveled across five continents and gathered over 8,000 signatures and pledges on the way for a greener, fairer, and more equal future. It travels all the way to New Zealand and Australia for the FIFA Women’s World Cup in July. An afternoon football clinic engaged aspiring players, leading up to the main event on stage in the evening.
German Ambassador Ina Lepel, Principal Peter Hoffmann, Board of Directors member Daniel Benes, and our Green Sustainability ambassadors from grades 5 to 12 all signed our very own DSJ replica ball and shared their pledges in front of a captivated audience. The festival's stage program was nothing short of spectacular; from delightful dances performed by the younger grades and our local partner school, to a mesmerizing display of Aceh's most popular dance Ratoh Jaroe dance by our talented lady teachers, the audience was treated to a cultural extravaganza.
The school orchestra, led by our marvelous music teacher Indra Yudha, impressed with their harmonious melodies, while the school bands and remarkable solo performances left attendees in awe. Not to be forgotten, the entertaining MC performance by our very own Michael Curdts — including his energetic performance of “Mit 66 Jahren”. He was perfectly complemented by our student MCs Mailin, Kei, Allison und Gina, adding an extra layer of excitement to the day's festivities.
Speaking of “66” — this is also the age of our school this year — it was founded in Bandung in 1957. So — Congratulations are in order! A birthday cake was cut and offered to our guests after that Udo Jürgen song.
The German School Jakarta Schulfest proved to be an outstanding event, bringing together the school community in a celebration of talent, camaraderie, and green commitments. With its wide range of engaging activities, remarkable performances, and a strong focus on sustainable values, this festival will undoubtedly be remembered as a highlight of the school year.
