In November 2022 the German School Jakarta was for the second time awarded the prestigious label of Excellent German School Abroad by the federal state inspection (BLI). This highlights that our school fulfills all of the very strict quality requirements set by the German authorities resulting in substantial support including funding, placement of teaching professionals from Germany, assistance with pedagogical school development, and the inclusion in the global network of 140 German Schools Abroad. It allows us to offer comparably lower school fees while ensuring our consistently very high education standards.
“The German schools abroad are important players in foreign cultural and educational policy,
building bridges between Germany and the partner countries” emphasized German Federal President Steinmeier, who is also the patron of the
PASCH
initiative.
His two visits
to the German School Jakarta, as well as those of
German chancellors and Indonesian presidents, show the important role that our school plays in Germany's foreign relations with Indonesia.
Quality education first and foremost comes from highly
qualified and passionate teaching professionals. Germany is renowned to have some of the world's
highest standards for education and training of teachers, who are required to get a University degree equivalent to a master's degree. As an
Excellent German School Abroad, we are supported by the German government with a constant inflow of qualified and specially prepared German teachers, in addition to locally hired talent that receives advanced training.
We use Pedagogical Quality Management (PQM),
a framework for school development of German Schools Abroad. It uses a systematic, targeted, and reflective process to further increase professionalism and adapt to changing conditions and needs, following the strict criteria of the
Quality Orientation
Framework. Along with
periodical inspections and feedback from German authorities (KMK), it ensures continuous, coherent, and sustainable improvement of teaching quality and learning conditions for students.
DAS is a network of around 140 German Schools Abroad that are supported by the German Foreign Ministry through the Central Agency for German Schools Abroad (ZfA). Its objective is to support German schools and teachers abroad through grants, job placement, training, as well as fostering the development of educational excellence by providing education quality frameworks (PQM), inspecting the implementation in schools, and awarding the title of
Excellent German School Abroad.
The initiative is a global network of around 2000 schools that place a high value on German language and culture. PASCH provides advice and support on developing German language teaching. Teachers are involved in local and regional PASCH education projects, together with their students, which foster ties between the schools, boost students’ language skills, and promote intercultural exchange. Moreover, PASCH supports graduates as they move from school to university and awards scholarships for studying in Germany.
The World Association of German Schools Abroad was founded in 2003 to represent the non-profit school boards of German schools abroad. It's the collective voice that mediates between these schools and politics to create value and benefits for both sides, and build bridges to universities and the economy. It also fosters the exchange of experience between schools and supports schools on the matter of management.
The KMK is the assembly of education ministers of the 16 German states, which de facto creates educational laws, since there is no federal legislation for education in Germany. It supports German schools abroad through development of the
Pedagogical Quality Management
and the
Quality Orientation Framework, as well as by inspecting the correct implementation in schools and giving feedback to improve.
