When entering primary school, every child has distinct learning requirements due to different educational backgrounds. Children who started their early childhood education at the German School Jakarta benefit from a seamless educational experience, while children with other pre-school education or even without any pre-school experience will feel at home in no time.
The school approaches this variety with a pedagogy of diversity. The aim is to create a learning environment in which the children feel welcome and valued. They have the experience of being perceived and accepted according to their own unique individual development.
Our primary school's mission is to provide a great basic school education. Above all, this includes teaching the key competencies of reading, writing, and mathematics. They form the basis for the success in all other areas and further education, and for the development of self-reliance and motivation to engage in lifelong learning.
Every child must be supported according to his or her learning needs, which is done, among other things, through differentiation in the classroom. This enables each child to experience success and gain skills, which in addition to the learning effect also contributes to enhancing the motivation to learn.
The role of the teachers is changing: modern educators serve as leaders, tutors, and guides.
"We pick up our children where they are."
DSJ teachers are a highly qualified, versatile, and inspired group of people, who do not just see teaching as a job but as a calling. To ensure the highest teaching standards and professional development our teachers participate in pedagogical and academic workshops and training within the global DAS network (German Schools abroad).

In our German International Program, all subjects are taught in German, with the exception of English, which is taught in its own language. The primary education encompasses grades 1–6, wherein
grade 5 and 6 are part of the
Orientation Level, a preparation for secondary school. In addition, our students in grade one and two have KonLab, a learning program in which the rhythm and structure of language are practiced. In the third school year, competence tests are held in the main subjects of German and Mathematics. The feedback provides information on the individual level of performance of the child and the class, as well as a feedback on all schools in Germany.

Students receive more specialist instruction in new subjects
from distinct subject teachers, hence gaining in-depth knowledge and specialised skills in order to gradually prepare for the intermediate levels
03
Students get two class teachers,
one German and one Indonesian who teach at least two subjects, hence maintain an important relationship with a person of reference
04
Students have joint class council sessions where they strengthen social interaction and maintain a close relationship with each other by discussing challenges, giving feedback, and getting support
05
Joint teaching creates more opportunities for meaningful social interaction — our school of encounter fosters intercultural interactions as part of teamwork and friendships within and in between classes, developing sound consideration, tolerance, and acceptance
06
Joint teaching improves language skills
through cultural exchange and intensive verbalization of individual steps, processes and observations in class
