Michael Curdts has been a teacher at the German School Jakarta (DSJ) since March 1, 2001, teaching German as a Foreign Language (DaF), Ethics, and History in the secondary school. As a graduate in German Studies with a focus on Linguistics (German as a Foreign Language) from the Otto-Friedrich University of Bamberg, he brings a strong academic background and extensive teaching experience to his work at the DSJ.
For Michael Curdts, teaching is one of the most rewarding professions in the world. He takes great joy in working with students and finds it deeply fulfilling to accompany them in their development — seeing how they grow, learn, and unfold their individual potential. His teaching philosophy can be summed up in his motto: “If it doesn’t reach the students, it can’t be that important.” This reflects his conviction that true learning only happens when it connects to the students’ interests and needs. What he values most about the DSJ are the students themselves — their curiosity, diversity, and enthusiasm make teaching a continually inspiring experience.
Outside the classroom, Michael Curdts is a passionate supporter of Hamburger SV, highlighting his love for football. He also has a fondness for meaningful quotes, though he prefers to let others speak them. One saying that particularly resonates with him is: “Good is not good enough.” This phrase captures his commitment to continuous improvement — both in his own work and in the learning process of his students.
As for his “hidden talent,” he keeps that a secret — perhaps because it inspires him to find creative solutions and fresh perspectives in everyday teaching. With his many years of experience, educational insight, and passion for teaching, Michael Curdts contributes greatly to making the DSJ a place of engaged learning and mutual respect.
