Janto Schmidt studied to become a secondary school teacher at Leibniz University Hannover-Hildesheim. After more than 23 years in the teaching profession, he is now starting a new chapter at the German School Jakarta, where he teaches German/DaF, Sports, and History.

He became a teacher because he enjoys guiding children and young people along part of their journey in life, helping them grow and develop values, motivation, and curiosity. What he appreciates most about his work is witnessing his students’ progress and drawing inspiration from it.

What makes DSJ special for Herr Schmidt is the new and the unknown – an exciting challenge he looks forward to. His educational motto is: Those who believe they’re already good have stopped getting better.

In his free time, Herr Schmidt enjoys sports, especially handball and football. He also loves reading, particularly historical novels and biographies, traveling, learning about other cultures, and a good cappuccino.
His favorite quote comes from Antoine de Saint-Exupéry:
“All grown-ups were once children, but only few of them remember it.”
