Once a year the Green DSJ Project Group organises an event called the Green Week, which happened from November 28th to December 2nd in 2022. We prepared multiple programs around sustainability which our students can focus on.

One of the key programs was a social action campaign called "Your Trash, My Treasure". The basic idea behind this is, that we all have collected plenty of things that once were dear to us, yet over the years became useless and forgotten. Through this activity we encourage our students to assess their "trash" and see if it actually could become someone else's “treasure".

Students were invited to bring their still usable possessions which they no longer need to school. These items were compiled and placed on the event stand in the school lobby area. Students were then permitted to take home only one item they felt they really needed.

At the end of the event, the Green Group collected the leftover from the campaign (which were still quite a lot of nice items) and donated them to a Refugee settlement in Jakarta in addition to other donations.

The objectives of this campaign were to increase our students’ awareness about the incredible amount of things we collect over time, items that became meaningless to us, yet could be meaningful to others. It also demonstrates the influence they can have on their environment and surroundings, even through the smallest of actions. In addition, the children recognise the virtues of generosity, empathy, contentment, and consideration for others. Teaching them to only take what they really needed rather than what they wanted was another crucial lesson.
