At the German School Jakarta, we usually hold our annual donation event at the end of each year. As last year's pre-Christmas season was extremely busy, we decided to conduct our donation day early 2023 — on 27th January. We picked two orphanages which reside not far from our school to be visited by parent and student representatives.
Prior to the event we raised significant funds from our school community as well collected foods (milk, healthy snacks, meals), used toys and books. From the collect cash donations we purchased powder milk for the orphanage babies and toddlers as well as goody bags.
The first orphanage we visited was Abhimata Mitrasamaya located in Jalan Mertilang 4, Bintaro. After handing over our donations we read and told stories to the children in German language (which they found extremely funny), played games and sang songs together. The children also had prepared a dance performance for us visitors. Everybody was having a great time.
The second visit was Yayasan Tuhan Gembalaku which is located in Jalan Cemara (Bumi Puspitek, Tangerang). Here our team had organised something special; we took the children on a shopping spree to a popular factory outlet in BSD. After the children had chosen some new clothes, we enjoyed interactive games and a yummy dinner together. And of course we offered our goody bags and the cash donation for this orphanage home. What a great afternoon!
