How can families and young people prepare for studying, working, and building a future in Germany? This question lay at the heart of Germany Calling – Education & Career Expo, which took place on Saturday, 24 January 2026, at Deutsche Schule Jakarta (DSJ).

The event brought together students, parents, young professionals, and key German institutions to explore concrete pathways into German education and career opportunities – from school to university, vocational training, and professional life, to building a future in Germany or, at some point, returning to Indonesia.

One Campus, Many Pathways

Throughout the morning, the DSJ campus transformed into a vibrant Marketplace of Opportunity. Educational institutions such as the DAAD, Goethe-Institut, Studienkolleg Indonesia, the Swiss-German University, the German-Indonesian Chamber of Industry and Commerce (AHK–EKONID), GIZ, and representatives from German universities engaged directly with visitors. German companies including BMW, framas, thyssenkrupp, Allianz, and others complemented these exchanges, while stage presentations and workshops offered deeper insights into the many routes leading to Germany.

Deutsche Schule Jakarta: The Perfect Start

In parallel, DSJ hosted a Preschool & Primary Open House, where families attended program presentations and explored the campus. This event showcased DSJ as the place where German education in Indonesia begins, providing a reliable pathway from early childhood through secondary school, higher education, and beyond.

Workshops: Learning from the Experts

A key element of Germany Calling were the eight interactive workshops, led by a diverse group of experts and educators. These included sessions by participating education institutions, as well as workshops led by DSJ’s Upper Secondary Coordinator (Herr Fuß) and Middle School Coordinator (Herr Bayat), offering valuable perspectives from within the German school system.

The alumni workshop offered a unique perspective, where former DSJ students shared their personal journeys. Among them were Biyan Harapan, now a neurosurgeon at LMU Klinikum Munich, his sister Nadiya Harapan, a veterinarian who studied and works in Germany, and Gary, a recent DSJ graduate who has just begun his studies in Germany. Their stories made the pathways tangible and demonstrated what is possible with commitment, curiosity, and the right educational foundation.

Connecting Education, Careers, and Perspectives

A central highlight of Germany Calling was the afternoon panel discussion, featuring representatives from higher education, the professional world, and alumni, alongside the German Ambassador. The discussion sparked a lively exchange, which was ultimately limited by the time available, with a few thoughtful audience questions addressed by the panelists.

Overall, Germany Calling demonstrated how education, career pathways, and industry are closely connected – and how Deutsche Schule Jakarta serves as a bridge between school, higher education, and the professional world. We are deeply grateful to all participating institutions, companies, speakers, and contributors who made this exchange possible.

A very special thank-you goes to the Parent Association (EVV) and the many parent volunteers whose support was essential to the success of the day.
